Friday, 30 Jul

There isn't any written homework over the weekend. However, please study for your spelling on Monday. It will be based on the words/phrases given to you a week ago on the 3 stories - The Dyke, The 5 Brothers & The Pelanduk.

The test for the Personal Response - The Five Brothers, will be on Wed, 4 Aug. Please start making notes in your book to help to memorize the parts. I've given all the help that I can for you to do well. NOW YOU HAVE TO HELP YOURSELF by remembering how to write the personal responses.

Our National Day celebrations will be held in school next Fri (6th Aug). Come to school in a red shirt/attire on that day.

Personal Responses (CA2) - Lanuage Arts

The Personal Response section of this term's assessment for English takes up 20 marks. You will be asked to write your Personal Response for one of these three stories: The Pelanduk, The Dyke or The Five Brothers. You have to learn all three and answer according to what is required. The question may be phrased is other ways, for example,
- Who are your favourite characters in the Five Brothers and The Pelanduk? Why?
- Which is the most exciting parts of the stories, The Pelanduk and The Dyke, and why do you like them?

I have given out the Personal Responses for all 3 stories which I believe will help you to do well. As this is an open book assessment, you are allowed to have your book with you when you answer the question. You are allowed to underline, highlight and make notes in your books. However, you should NOT copy out all the sentences into your book or to attach any pieces of paper onto the pages.

Make use of the book and your own handwritten notes in it to help you "memorize" all the 3 personal responses written for you. If you do not like what I've written, you may write your own personal responses but PLEASE ask your parent to help you write them so that there will not be any grammatical or structural errors.

This will be tested in Week 7 (National Day week). Thereafter, you will have to present one part of your Personal Response in Week 8 and 9. This will be done in front of your classmates during the EL periods. This will take up another 12 marks. For the presentation, you have to show that you are prepared and have rehearsed properly.

Refer to the Rubrics on how you will be assessed. Remember to show this to your parents too.

English - CA2 Language Components

Dear parents

I've distributed to the children the breakdown for the English CA2 assessment. At the back of that are the rubrics used to assess their written work and oral presentation.

This term, they are being taught to appreciate the stories that they read by writing their personal responses (not the same as a book review) and to create story webs.

We've begun on The Pelanduk, and will move on to The Dyke and The Five Brothers. These stories are all from the book The Lady Lawyer which was part of the booklist at the start of the year. Please ensure that your child has the book and brings it to school.
