Math Trial - Parent Volunteers

The math trial will be held in Week 9. Our class is scheduled to have ours on 25th Aug 2010.

Parent volunteers (PVs) will be needed who will be assisiting pupils from other P3 classes. If we have more PVs, we will be able to swap PVs with classes with more. This will mean that our class pupils can be split into smaller groups. Smaller groups are generally more efficient, task-oriented and less difficult to manage.

Please ask your parents early and let me know as soon as possible.

Oral Presentation

We've just had the test for the Personal Response today. In the test, you were given the choice to write about any of the 3 stories we had gone through.

We will begin the oral presentation from next week.

To prepare for it, please reflect on the story you had written about. You can present any of the following points:

1) Which story I like most?
2) What is the story about?
3) Who / Which is my favourite character?
4) What is the most exciting part of the story?
5) Why I like the story?

As your presentation should take at least a minute, you may choose to talk about any 2 of the points above.

Please refer also to the rubrics given to you on how you will be assessed for the oral presentation.

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Friday, 30 Jul

There isn't any written homework over the weekend. However, please study for your spelling on Monday. It will be based on the words/phrases given to you a week ago on the 3 stories - The Dyke, The 5 Brothers & The Pelanduk.

The test for the Personal Response - The Five Brothers, will be on Wed, 4 Aug. Please start making notes in your book to help to memorize the parts. I've given all the help that I can for you to do well. NOW YOU HAVE TO HELP YOURSELF by remembering how to write the personal responses.

Our National Day celebrations will be held in school next Fri (6th Aug). Come to school in a red shirt/attire on that day.

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Personal Responses (CA2) - Lanuage Arts

The Personal Response section of this term's assessment for English takes up 20 marks. You will be asked to write your Personal Response for one of these three stories: The Pelanduk, The Dyke or The Five Brothers. You have to learn all three and answer according to what is required. The question may be phrased is other ways, for example,
- Who are your favourite characters in the Five Brothers and The Pelanduk? Why?
- Which is the most exciting parts of the stories, The Pelanduk and The Dyke, and why do you like them?

I have given out the Personal Responses for all 3 stories which I believe will help you to do well. As this is an open book assessment, you are allowed to have your book with you when you answer the question. You are allowed to underline, highlight and make notes in your books. However, you should NOT copy out all the sentences into your book or to attach any pieces of paper onto the pages.

Make use of the book and your own handwritten notes in it to help you "memorize" all the 3 personal responses written for you. If you do not like what I've written, you may write your own personal responses but PLEASE ask your parent to help you write them so that there will not be any grammatical or structural errors.

This will be tested in Week 7 (National Day week). Thereafter, you will have to present one part of your Personal Response in Week 8 and 9. This will be done in front of your classmates during the EL periods. This will take up another 12 marks. For the presentation, you have to show that you are prepared and have rehearsed properly.

Refer to the Rubrics on how you will be assessed. Remember to show this to your parents too.

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Spelling - Week 4

It is regrettable that the report books cannot be given out before the stipulated date. Parents, I sincerely apologize also that I have to arrange the individual meetings at 10-minute intervals in order to be able to meet everyone. We would have to arrange a separate meeting if you have more concerns/issues for discussion.

Happy Lunar New Year, one and all!

There isn't any homework so you may enjoy your holiday thoroughly. Remember to avoid eating too much goodies, especially those who are already having a cough.

For pupils who will be receiving red packets, it will be a very nice gesture if you can offer what you've collected to your parents. Do realize that as you collect these red packets, your parents will be giving them out too. This is one way we can learn to honour our parents (Exodus 20:5) during this festive period.

Remember also that your MT teacher will be collecting an Ang Pow donation for the Jamilah Home next Wed. Do give
if you are able to, and with a cheerful heart.

See you back next Wed!

Welcome to the Class Blog

Dear parents, boys and girls

It has taken a whole month for me to begin this blog. It is something which I hope I will be able to find the time and space to consistently update.

For a start, I'll use this to update everyone on the homework, assignments and tasks that I've given to the class. I'll also use this to inform everyone about upcoming activities both for the class and the school.
